Status Buttons:
Work Order statuses are updated by using the buttons at the bottom of the screen, and unlike the Project statuses, the labels here cannot be customized. The statuses cannot be updated by using the check boxes at the top of the form. They are updated by using the status buttons, specifically because there are routines that run by using the buttons that make things function correctly. Below are the six statuses for production:
1. Planned
This status means you have written the Work Order up and things look like you need it, although you may not be sure about the quantity and dates because of demands you are getting in, or other inventory issues. Work Orders with this status are Included in MRP reports. Until they are at least Planned, they do not show up in MRP reports.
2. Firmed
This status is to indicate the Work Order has been written up, and that quantities and dates have been firmed up and verified by the planner.
3. MaterialsCheck
This status is to indicate that the WorkOrder has been checked for Materials availability.
4. Released
This status means the Work Order has been released to the floor, and that the BOM materials times the quantity has been allocated into a status called Work In Progress (WIP). This means the Product is not Finished Goods yet, but it is taken out of inventory.
5. Finished
This WorkOrder has been finished, the pieces from WIP are removed and inventory has be increased for the Part or Finished Good.
6. Closed
This status is to indicate that the WorkOrder is closed, and will not be included in any MRP Reports.
Reports:
The Work Order reports are accessed by pressing the buttons located at the bottom of the Work Order form.
WO Requirements
This is a gut check summary repor of the Work Order with all the BOM's and how much of the quantity you are going to need to build the Work Order. It shows how much you currently have in inventory, and where its going to leave you if you were to take it out (ProjInv). This is basically giving you the gross requirements for the Work Order and displays the BOM inventory for each location. A planner can look at this report and even though maybe some of the components may not be stocked, the planner will still release the Work Order because MRP shows the material coming in on a PO in time, etc.
W/O Requirements per InvLocation
This report is the same as the WO Requirements, but only showing BOM inventory levels for the Inventory Location you have picked.
StockBill
This report enables you to print the Work Order out as a StockBill. If there has been a StockBill associated with the Finished Good, it will show you that StockBill here. It doesn't debit inventory but gives you something to release to the floor that has the dimensions and instructions necessary to produce the Item. This could function as a traveler. In conjunction with the Custom Report Module, this could be elaborated upon to include pictures and graphics with the StockBill. Click here for more information on the Custom Report Module.
Work Order Pull Sheet
This report is almost like a traveler, but its really just about tracking the inventory debits. If you associate the Work Order with a Sales Order, then you will have the company info displayed on the Pull Sheet. This helps get Orders ready for creating the Packing Slip. This is a basic accountability report. This report was developed by an ISO certified company that needed this amount of detail on Pull Sheets to meet their quality inspection.
There is also one other helpful Work Order report called BMS-WipAssemblies. This report generates a list of All Work Orders that are currently Released, but not yet Finished. This report is accessed from the Work Order Report button on the BusinessMaster front Switchboard.
